It’s a Saturday and our last full day in Singapore.  We decided to check out the zoo.. We have been so blown away by how they have done the botanical and bird gardens that we decided to hit the zoo and see how this fared as well. 

After coming back to our hotel I looked into the zoo rankings.. Singapore rates as the #3 zoo in the world (San Diego is #1) and I would agree with that.. it’s quite nice but just a step behind San Diego.  It rained for awhile last night; it didn’t lower the temperatures today but did raise the humidity and made walking around a real, sweaty struggle.

Those ugly red “growths” are nothing more than natures way to let the boys know that the girls are ready for some lovin’.

Singapore is quite beautiful and every bit of land not holding a building has been planted with tropical growth.

After the zoo we spent the afternoon in Chinatown.  All of the tourist sites say that this is where you can get the best food in Singapore.. These are “Hawker stalls” that work a lot like shopping mall food courts.  IF you can get a table, you plonk down and pick out which vendor’s food you want to eat.  This place had multiple aisles and all of them were packed with people.  At a couple of the places, there were long lines going out into the sunny street – because they have actually earned a Michelin star.  Others had been visited and featured by Anthony Bourdain.  We are not foodies and we really hate crowds, so we walked 100 yards away to find a restaurant that was quiet, had a table and served dumplings.

This was our lunch – which didn’t look so hot but was really good.

After lunch we walked the streets of Chinatown.. full of people buying and selling and eating on a Saturday afternoon.
