Here are some photos from the first couple days of our Spring Break trip down to the “Golden Islands” – a series of barrier islands along the south Georgia border.

Before reaching our first destination, we drove to Savannah to meet up with Isabella.  We dropped off some new furniture for her.. the coffee table (above) was just completed by John.  She also has a new, matching side table.  The computer desk top is also new – a piece of marble that Bella picked out over Xmas break.

Foster got off work and we met up at a local Chipotle to stuff our faces before resuming our journey south to St. Simons Island.  Josie is with her two friends (Aiden, Alyssa).  We have Rita and Randy with Bella and Foster top right.

On St. Simons Island – this is the house we rented for the 7 of us.  Very large and a great, fenced back yard to allow Winston a lot of room to roam and burn off excess energy.

Hiking the next day.

Visiting Fort Frederica.. this once marked the southern border between England (to the north) and Spain (to the south).  Fort Frederica was once a bustling town – the third largest in Georgia – but disappeared after the Spanish and Indian threats died away in the 1750’s.

Throughout this region there remain a lot of buildings and paths made from “Tabby” – a type of concrete made from burning oyster shells to create lime, then mixing it with water, sand, ash and broken oyster shells.  They hold up many hundreds of years later.

We had absolutely perfect weather all week.. partly sunny and highs in the 70’s.
