Back in Canterbury and the surrounding regions.  The weather is back to middle-of-July cloudy and just a wee bit coldish.  We welcomed the change from the South of France – too hot and no one with any A/C.

Mom and Dad will remember this plaza, right in front of the Canterbury Cathedral and always crowded. (Except when Dad and I look for open coffee shops at 6:30am.)

Brick church on Left, Roman wall on Right.

Richborough Roman fort and amphiteatre (or what of it is left).  This was the very first roman fortification and permanent site after the Roman invasion in 43 a.d.  At the time, this site was on a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides.  Since then, the water level has lowered and we’re now some 10 miles away from the North sea.

We had the place to ourselves and it was a wonderful opportunity for the kids to run around and roll about in the flowers.

Taking the drive back to Canterbury. You never make good time on these small, one lane roads.
