On Saturday morning, we awoke and walked back into downtown Canterbury to find that local folks were setting up for a farmer’s market, covering the length of the pedestrian section of town. Mom managed to find a porcelain rabbit that she’ll be taking home. I bought fudge and apple juice for the crew.
We then drove to Westerham, the home of Chartwell – Winston Churchill’s home and base from 1924 until he died in 1965. To me, this was one of the most anticipated locations of the entire trip, and we were not disappointed. We spent most of the day there and caught a quick lunch before departing.

That afternoon we watched a number of demonstrations by the Home Guard – a WWI doughboy group showing how quickly they did machine gun installations, how to properly attack targets with bayonets, how to dress wounds & etc.
Late in the afternoon, we drove to Brighton, the beach town on the southern coast – even though it was cold and windy and constantly threatening to rain, the place was crowded. So much so, that after a quick walk to the pier, we decided to leave because it was just too chaotic for any of us to have any fun.

Cold, wet & windy. Still, there are kids getting buried in the rocks (no sand here) on the beach, while others play cricket. People are laying out, even though there is no sun.
We then drove to our hotel, caught a quick dinner via room service and hit the sack.
