Today, the first day of our spring break, we made our annual pilgrimage to Helen, Ga. It’s a small tourist town in the north Georgia Appalachian foothills. It’s been redone to look like a Bavarian town.
We ate various wursts with numerous types of mustard, sauerkraut, cabbage and pretzels. Then the kids posed for their annual “Old Timey” photo. After that, it was window shopping and ice cream.

Finished picture! Annual old-timey photo. We have 5 years of these now, all taken almost exactly 12 months apart. It’s fun to see how the kids change from year to year.

Our family Helen tradition — ice cream after a German lunch.
Injured Josie. She fell and scraped her knee. She didn’t put her hands down to break her fall because she was protecting her ice cream. She saved the ice cream, but got a bloody knee in the process. One of the nice shop ladies gave her a band-aid.

For this year’s Mother’s Day, we made our annual trip up to Helen, GA (about 1 1/2 hrs away in the North Ga mountains). We had our traditional lunch of German food, Old Timey Photos and ice cream.
This is our sixth consecutive year of visits.

Today we made our annual trek up to Helen, GA in the Appalachian foothills. We had plenty of sun, if not heat, and because we went up early in the season, the crowds in the tourist town here absent. (But before we left, a quick shot of Josie in a tree in our back yard.)
Momma cleaning up her boy and making him presentable. It won’t be too many years before she’ll have to reach up to get at his face.
Lunch on the Chattahoochee river.
Miniature golfing has become a fun, must-do event in Helen each year.
The Old-Timey photo from this year – our 8th consecutive year.

Sadly, we didn’t make it to Helen this year. Other travel took priority and we just didn’t have time. 😦
