With very little of an agenda we agreed to just wander the city and see what we might stumble onto.  We started our walk at Merdeka square which is the largest place for citizen gatherings and marks the location where independence from the UK was achieved in the 50’s.  There are numerous administration buildings and the remains of the Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque – the oldest in KL and situated at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers.  “Kuala Lumpur” means “muddy confluence” in Malay.

After this we visited the Central Market and the Jalan Petaling Market to pick up some more cheap goodies/gifts.  In general, KL is a very cheap place to visit.. especially compared to our experiences in HK and Singapore.

In the afternoon we walked through the Perdana Botanical gardens.

Quite by coincidence we saw the signs to yet another bird aviary – this one purports to be the world’s largest free-flight, walk-in aviary – spanning 21 acres under netting.  Here Mom is feeding baby.

Setting sun.  For dinner we went to a nearby Indian restaurant that recently was awarded a Michelin star.  The food and service WAS excellent.. and we were able to have a full meal with wine all in for about US$75.00
Early to bed because we have a long day planned tomorrow on the road to see more of the Malaysian countryside before we return home.
