Today we left South Carolina and continued our drive north. We could not check into our next location until 5 – so we had some time to kill in the morning as well as make a couple of stops along the way.

The boardwalk on Myrtle Beach.. in the summer it’s open to dogs, but only prior to 10:00am. We nearly had the place to ourselves this Sunday morning.

Nearing lunch Brenda found a place for us to stop and do a hike in the woods – Island Creek state park. We all got a chance to stretch our legs and let Winston (unleashed) empty his tanks.

Heading east and toward the ocean we entered the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula where the terrain changed dramatically to marshland and estuaries that empty into the Sound. Along the road we saw a mother black bear and her cub – we had no idea that bears lived in this part of the world.

We’re staying on Hatteras Island, shaped like a sliver and the most windward of the Outer Banks islands. View of the “street” behind the house we’re renting. All houses docks, most have boats and all have access via the canals to Pimlico Sound.

This place is far too big for the three of us – but it’s nice to spread out. Josie gets her own room and finally some privacy from her tiresome parents.

Winston settling in and making it “his”.
