Final shots from our spring break trip to the GA/FL barrier islands.
Fort Clinch, on Amelia Island, FL. This was built to ward off the Spanish, but expanded to protect against the British in 1812 and the Seminole Indians later. What we see now was largely a result of Yankee occupation of the fort in 1862.
The curators have restored the fort and given it a “day in the life” look from 1864.
Back to the beaches. Winston needs walks several times a day and he got them on this trip – far more interesting than doing our loop around the neighborhood at home.
Ruins of a sugar mill near St Marys, GA – built in the same tabby (seashell concrete) construction used throughout this region.
The port of St Marys, GA.
Final shot – one of me. I promise I had more fun than it seems judging by the photo.
