Our final day in the UK.  We fly out of Heathrow tomorrow morning and will be back in Atlanta tomorrow afternoon.

We’re ready to go home.  After 43 days on the road we certainly are looking forward to doing nothing but being home, in our own beds, away from each other a bit, amongst our stuff (that all works!), animals and perhaps a little sunshine.  Still, it also feels like it has gone by all too quickly, and despite everything that we saw or did, we were more frequently torn by all of the things we didn’t see or do due to lack of time.  There is no end here!

On our final day, we decided to tour Windsor Castle near London.  We went to Windsor one afternoon with my folks, but we got there too late and the castle was closed for tourists.  We are sure glad we came back – the place is indeed impressive, and rivals Versailles for opulence and interest.  The Queen and King of England have a very nice home.  We only got to see a bit of it (the more historic section) but it’s a fantastic place with too much history to take in on one visit.

We’re now at a hotel near the airport.  We eat dinner here and go to bed early.  Tomorrow morning, we’re up before dawn, drop off the rental, take the shuttle to Terminal 4, lug all of our suitcases and goodies back by hook or by crook and hopefully make it to the ATL late tomorrow.

At lunch in Windsor – we all had burgers, fries and milkshakes and they were a great change of pace!

Some kind of big “do” going on … guards checking all the guests against a big list and inspecting IDs like at the airport. You aren’t getting into the restricted areas without proof of identification and an invitation, even if you are wearing a ridiculous hat.

Here’s the final map of our travels… 4 different cars (2 rentals, 2 Land Rovers) and over 4,500 miles in 43 days. We’ll never forget it.
