Limoges, France (12 July 2012)

We got up early on Wednesday to make the drive northward from Toulouse. This next destination held particular interest to Brenda, who envisioned walking from porcelain store to porcelain store (a la Delft) finding all sorts of treasures at unbelievably low prices. As it turns out, Limoges doesn’t have as many stores as you would think that sell their particular brand of porcelain art – it took us some time wandering about to find various artists’ stores located in out of the way alleys and corners. Brenda did, however, find something that was worthy of the name and was affordable – and so we come home with a hand painted, enameled copper plate.

We spent the rest of the day there having lunch and window shopping.  Limoges isn’t terribly large and you can see the complete, pedestrian part of town in just a couple of hours. Afterwards, we drove to our hotel which was about 10 miles away in a non-descript neighborhood.

As we head north, the weather turns cloudier and cooler.

Jockeying for position.

Not a right angle in sight.

Here is my prototypical French Man. Heer zi am, weeth my Gauloises an my gold shains et ze opeen sheert. I veel make ze luff tu you, eef you wahnt me tu.

Hot chocolate break.

Enameled copper plate from Limoges, now safely at our house. The artist is Lea Sham’s. (You can google her and see other examples of her work.)

The bronze sandpiper is by Steve Tyree, an artist from Oregon.  He has a website, too. http://www.tyreesculpture.com/
