This evening, we’re in Badenweiler, Germany – deep in the Black Forest – home of Cuckoo Clocks and Schnapps.
We left France in the morning and headed towards Triberg, Germany where I had a hike planned up into the mountains… but the weather turned poor and we had nothing but rain once we got up into the upper elevations and into the clouds. In the end, we drove through the town and stopped at a couple of clock stores to see what was offered, but we didn’t stay long.

We then headed back out of the mountains toward our final destination – Badenweiler, in far southwest Germany. Since Roman times, this town has been a popular tourist spot due to the natural hot springs. It is still quite small, but there are at least 10 different spas in the area that cater to rich clientele who need to “take the waters”.

Too much time was spent in the car today, in too poor weather. We walked into town and bought some baskets of fruit for dinner, returned, and are now resting and preparing for our continued trip south – into Switzerland tomorrow.

Lunch in Badenweiler. Once you get out of the major towns, folks do not speak English. This makes for “entertaining” exchanges. Still, we managed lunch as well as 2 large German waffle deserts with cherries and cream afterwards.

Isabella and I both purchased pink pearl necklaces from a local shop. (That’s what is in the little blue box she’s holding.) Now, deciding what to do next!
