We rented a cabin by Lake Buckhorn in the north Georgia mountains for a weekend getaway.
Hot tub! They could only stay in for around 10 minutes at a time. The water was 100 degrees, and so was the outside air temp. Luckily the bugs weren’t too bad, and the deck area was almost always in shade.

Isabella and Max, contemplating life on the end of the dock.
Holden learning the art of casting. We never got a single nibble, but had a lot of fun watching the wildlife on the lake. It was an incredibly idyllic setting — peaceful, private, beautiful. We’re already trying to book another weekend there for the Fall when it’s not quite so hot and we can spend more time hiking and sitting around fires.
Josie happy as can be — eating a bag of chips in a shady hammock.
Me in my pajamas testing out the canoe. Neither Holden nor Josie can swim well, so I needed to see how the canoe was going to be before I took them out. Isabella and I ended up in the canoe, and we took the other two out in the paddle boat, which was much more stable.
Holden getting in some very early morning fishing. A boy, a fishing rod, and his dog … he had a fantastic and memorable time.
Josie trying to fish. She was too young to manage the pole and found the whole fishing process frustrating. Her line was constantly tangled. Luckily there were a lot of other things for her do.
Roasting marshmallows. It was so hot you had to stand by the fire for as long as you could stand it, then run away and cool down before resuming the roasting process. Campfires are more pleasant in fall, but we still had a lot of fun with it.
